This article is based on my own opinions. I have been following IOTA for several years, and will now share what I see as some of the main reasons why Chrysalis is the most important upgrade of IOTA’s history and will provide a base-layer protocol with very few competitors.

IOTA Chrysalis — A New Dawn

1. Enabler for industrial adoption

Chrysalis is the most extensive network upgrade in the history of IOTA. The upgrade touches on all aspects of IOTA, including wallets, libraries, software implementations, and security protocols as well as laying the foundation for the upcoming Coordicide upgrade. Chrysalis represents a completely overhauled IOTA toolset, opening the door for the development of any number of enterprise- and consumer-level applications that will leverage the power of the IOTA Tangle. The integration is mostly plug & play, a completely new network that is able to scale to the demands of production-level clients. In short, IOTA is becoming production-ready. This is big, because in the past most applications that have been integrated with the IOTA Tangle has been Proof of Concepts. This upgrade makes the IOTA network scalable, faster and more reliable which opens up the possibility to have real-life applications on top of the Tangle.

“We now have an enterprise-ready platform that will please both industry and consumer users with its enhanced functionally, industry-standard upgrades, and energy efficiencies. Our engineers have worked diligently to build the foundation for Coordicide and beyond.”

Dominik Schiener

2. Smooth transition to Coordicide

The Chrysalis upgrade is first and foremost an important stepping stone to the Coordinator-free life of the Tangle. Most of the changes that are required for the Coordicide is already achieved through the Chrysalis upgrade. This means that any industry or enterprise applications that are implemented on the new Chrysalis network will only need to undergo minor, if any, adjustments to the fully matured Coordicide network. This will…
